Gîte Le logis du Pigeonnier

The Dovecote (Pigeonnier) was intended for breeding pigeons for food or for racing. In the Middle Ages, it would have provided the Grand Courdeault estate with not only a significant supply of food but also fertilizer which was a source of wealth for the lord and his people. Pigeon droppings, "columbine", were used as manure until the middle of the 20th century. 

Today the Grand Courdeault dovecote can still be visited and is still inhabited by wild pigeons who find in its alcoves a safe and dry place to nest.

The Gîte Le Logis du Pigeonnier is situated next to the tower and we offer you the opportunity to spend your holidays in a traditional stone dwelling with contemporary decoration and modern household appliances. It is ideal for families and groups and is well situated to venture out and discover everything that the region has to offer. It is near the sea and La Rochelle and the islands as well as very close to the calm Marais Poitevin. This large gîte offers you space and a choice of things to see that will enchant everybody throughout your stay.

On the ground floor: Open plan kitchen space in the central living space(60m2). Separate bathroom and toilet. 1 double bedroom (bed 160m wide) with en suite shower and washroom and toilet (wheelchair accessible) and a second double bedroom (bed 140m wide).

Upstairs - first floor: One bedroom with 4 single beds (90cm wide)

Annexe: 2 double bedrooms (beds 140cm wide) each with en suite shower and separate toilet.

There is a covered space outside under which you can relax and BBQ or use the plancha and practice the French art of the "aperitif". Grand Courdeault also has a heated and child-proof outdoor swimming pool that all its guests can enjoy.
